The EB_A project The Garden has been nominated for the Polis AWARD for urban and project development in the category "intelligent redensification".
The award honors projects that contribute to the common good of the city in an innovative way.
Because more and more people are moving to cities due to attractive jobs, good infrastructure and a wide range of cultural, shopping and leisure opportunities, open spaces have had to give way to make room for housing. But the fewer open spaces there are, the worse the climate - and the greater our need for nature. By increasingly blurring the boundaries between city and country, the growing urban population is redefining urbanity. People are reclaiming nature in urban spaces. The Garden proves that dense cities and natural spaces can indeed be combined.
"The Garden" is located directly on the so-called "border strip" of the former Berlin Wall. In relation to this historic site, the residential complex is intended to set an example against segregation and exclusion. This benefits not only its residents, but also the city of Berlin, whose historical sites are reinterpreted with new symbols of sustainability and unity.
In order to strengthen social cohesion among its residents, the concept for The Garden included the appointment of a residential area manager to shape and moderate the togetherness of the residents in the sense of "community building".
