Eike Becker_Architekten has been awarded the 2026 German Architecture Prize. The firm received first prize for the ROCKYWOOD project in Offenbach am Main—two beautiful buildings that combine sustainable construction with social responsibility.
ROCKYWOOD is a multi-story hybrid timber building for residential and commercial use. The building was constructed using a modular design and features an integrated building services concept that significantly reduces CO? emissions during operation. It thus sets a standard for climate-friendly construction in an urban context.
The usage concept received special attention: The site was already home to a nonprofit association that operates a boxing club for young people facing challenges at school or at home. Eike Becker_Architekten deliberately integrated the club into the building and, together with the adjacent playground, created a public gathering and training space that has been actively used since the summer of 2025.
“Many thanks to the jury for this award. We see our project as a particularly heartfelt building, because it is not only a timber structure and a modular building with a smart building services concept that saves a lot of CO?, but it is also a social project. Along with the property, we inherited a nonprofit association that operates as a boxing club for young people who are struggling in school and/or at home. [...] Our concept has been a complete success.”
