As part of its Innovation Radar, the ZIA has awarded Eike Becker_Architekten the title Outstanding Innovation 2023 for their project TLW in Gropius-Stadt, Berlin. Of the 129 applicants for this title, the jury of the ZIA Innovation Think Tank focused this time on New Construction, CO2 Reduction and Liveable Cities and Regions. Nine winners received the Outstanding Innovation 2023 Award: Otto Dörner Entsorgung, Art-Invest, Eike Becker_Architekten, Ecoestate, Gropyus, Typha Technik and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, Comgy and Realcube as well as Beyond Tech.

The project is an outstandingly good example of urban redensification, here on the site of a former multi-storey car park. It is the first cooperative, 20-storey high-rise residential building in four decades in Berlin and can serve as a tried and tested model for the tokenisation of property values. The additional meeting spaces, such as a communal kitchen, restaurant, café, a central contact point for a neighbourhood caretaker and a new playground for young and old, will also strengthen the existing neighbourhood.
